Maine Small Town Comforts

Day 36: Finally, there was a day on the trip that was a little more low key and less go-go-go “see everything that you can”. Our road trip was (and still is) planned to see as much as we could in short amounts of time. We have seen a lot and traveled over 5,580 miles so far. Wowza. ANNDD we are only in the middle of Maine. We still have to get home!

A Date with Coffee

Location: Ellsworth, Maine

To catch up on some work, we packed up from our sleeping space in Wal-Mart and drove to a local coffee shop called Flexit Café. We parked it for the entire morning (free).  We tired their light roast twice, a quiche and some kind of egg pastry-pop-over-thing.  It was a good creative session.

For a late afternoon lunch, we swung by the local grocery store and gathered ingredients for another round of massive salads. This time, Chad went for two cans of sardines and I stuck to one. After about 15 minutes, our jaws were tired of chewing the veggies and it’s basically a marathon to finish the entire thing.

"It's tough work..." says Chad as he chomped on his extra-topping salad.

Movie Time

Now full and cleaned up, we decided the Acadia National Park could wait until tomorrow so we could have as much time as we needed since it was already 4:30 p.m.  Pondering the idea of going to see a movie, we looked up some theaters in the area and watched a few trailers.  45 minutes later, we arrived in a town called Bangor and bought tickets to Long Shot

While walking into the movie theater, I dropped my phone pretty good on the asphalt and cracked my screen protector in a few places. When we get home I will have to peel it off and check to see if the real screen is cracked underneath it. Bummer! But, it has withstood tons of drops without screen damage, so I can’t complain too much.

We laughed a lot and enjoyed the movie.  It was a fun new story line and the jokes were awesome.   There were only about 6 other people in the whole theater (everyone was at Avengers Infinity War) and it had leather recliner seats.

It was a good way to spend the evening and we drove home (home lol we went back to Wal-Mart) through the country side that looks just like driving to Bemidji or to the North Shore.

Time for Bed

Maine is just like Minnesota, except there is a massive ocean and seafood available. The trees, weather, dirt and people are basically the same (everywhere we go there are friendly humans!).

We made camp for the second night in the SAME Wal-Mart parking lot. This is a big deal because we don’t stay somewhere twice (usually). This time there were two other RVs and a few sprinklings of car campers there with us.

Routine down-pat, we were off to bed in no time. Our routines include:

  • Chad scrolling through the news feed while I pull out the sleeping gear (blankets + pillows) from the truck through the folding back seats. Pretty sneaky, huh?
  • Chad relays news while I prep my side and clear the back seat for Chad’s seat to recline.
  • We both floss and brush our teeth.
  • Chad gets his side ready while I cleanse with the spa experience only wet wipes can offer.
  • Chad then goes to the spa and sprays isopropyl alcohol on his boots/feet to reduce smells.
  • I can’t forget my retainers (if I don’t wear them a massive migraine hits!).
  • We both dawn our sleeping masks and fall asleep in our pillow palaces (Chad is now only using 1 and I have 4… I have more of the palace).

Night night!
